Is undead unluck season 1 Good?

I first came across this anime through a clip on Instagram. The scene was hilarious—Fuuko was about to end her life when Andy suddenly appeared and lifted her by the neck. A moment later, the ground beneath him gave way, and he crashed into an oncoming train, seemingly turning to dust. That absurd sequence instantly caught my attention, so I decided to give the anime a try. It turned out to have one of the funniest first episodes I've watched in a long time.

From the very first episode, Undead Unluck completely surprised me. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it this much, but by the end of Season 1 it became one of my favorite recent anime. The biggest reason is the relationship between Fuuko and Andy. Their chemistry carries the entire season, and I found myself looking forward to every scene they shared.

One of my favorite moments in the entire season is the ending of Episode 1. After Andy and Fuuko finally understand how Fuuko's Unluck ability works, Union members suddenly attack them. Andy cuts off his own head to save Fuuko, and she kisses him, triggering one of the biggest Unluck events we've seen so far. A massive meteor crashes into the building, destroying everything around them while Andy survives thanks to his Undead ability.

That entire sequence perfectly shows what kind of anime this is—crazy action mixed with

comedy and romance. I also couldn't stop laughing when Andy casually wondered, "If a kiss can do that... what about s*x?" Fuuko's embarrassed reaction and Andy chasing after her was one of the funniest scenes in the series. It immediately sold me on their dynamic.

Throughout the season, Andy and Fuuko become one of my favorite anime duos. I especially loved Fuuko's character development. At the beginning of the story, she wanted nothing more than to end her life because she believed her Negator ability only brought pain to everyone around her. As the season progresses, she slowly gains confidence, accepts her powers, and starts using them to protect others instead of running away from them. Watching that growth was really satisfying.

I also think Andy and Fuuko are the perfect match. Fuuko's Unluck usually brings disaster to anyone who touches her, while Andy's Undead ability allows him to survive even the worst accidents. Because of that, they can stay together in a way that no one else can, making their relationship feel both unique and surprisingly wholesome.

Victor and juiz

Another relationship that caught my attention was Victor and Juiz. Season 1 doesn't reveal much about their history, but the small hints were enough to make me curious. I can't wait to learn more about Victor's past in future seasons because it feels like there's a much bigger story waiting to be told.

Shen and Mui
Shen and Mui

Another duo I really enjoyed was Shen and Mui. Every time Shen appeared, he made the scenes more entertaining. I love his carefree personality and the way he's always smiling, even in the middle of a dangerous fight. At first he seems like someone who doesn't take anything seriously, but as the story goes on you can tell he's actually a very skilled and dependable member of the Union.

Shen the untruth

His Negator ability, Untruth, is also one of the coolest powers in the series. It creates unpredictable situations during battles, making every fight involving Shen fun to watch.

I also liked Mui, Shen's loyal assistant. Even though she doesn't get as much screen time as the main cast, I enjoyed seeing her interactions with Shen. Their chemistry is surprisingly wholesome, and she always supports him no matter what. I'm hoping Season 2 gives both Shen and Mui more focus because they quickly became two of my favorite side characters.

Chikara Shigeno
Chikara Shigeno

I also liked Chikara Shigeno's story. Imagine being an ordinary student whose entire life changes in a single day. After being kidnapped and dragged into the world of Negators, he slowly begins finding the courage to move forward. His character arc wasn't the biggest in Season 1, but I thought it was well done.

Rip and Latla
Rip and Latla

As for the villains, I honestly didn't like Rip and Latla very much. They were interesting enough as antagonists, but I found Latla's constant facial expressions and attitude a little annoying. I know that was part of her personality, but it didn't really work for me. On the other hand, Rip himself became more interesting as the story revealed more about his motivations, so I'm curious to see where his character goes next.

My biggest complaint is that the anime sometimes relies too much on recaps and flashbacks, especially in the second half of the season. They slow down the pacing a bit, but thankfully the story is still enjoyable. This pacing issue is a common criticism among viewers.

Overall, I had an amazing time watching Undead Unluck Season 1. It has great action, hilarious comedy, emotional moments, and one of my favorite anime couples in recent years. The season ends by setting up an exciting new story involving the next set of quests, and I'm really looking forward to Season 2 to see where Andy, Fuuko, and the rest of the Union go from here.
